Brilliant photoluminescent colors

Blankenhain/Thuringia, 18.10.2011 – In addition to outstanding mechanical characteristics, the visible surface, a pleasant feel, and, above all, the look all play a crucial role when developing a new product. As one of the most innovative partners to the plastics processing industry, the GRAFE-Group is presenting its highly popular development for improved aesthetics at FAKUMA 2011: masterbatches for brilliant photoluminescent colors.

The use of masterbatches for photoluminescent plastics has become increasingly relevant in recent years. “The coloured photoluminescent masterbatch for the plastics processing industry is booming again,” reports Danny Ludwig, Development Manager. “Our product can be manufactured in various luminescent colors and in all common thermoplastics. The duration and intensity of photoluminescence can be adapted to suit individual clients’ requests.”

The product can be used in a wide range of different applications, extending from the fashion and advertising industries via the toy industry through to safety equipment. Specifically in emergency situations, above all in power cuts, getting your bearings quickly and finding the emergency exits in a targeted manner can save lives. Such beneficial photoluminescent aids include, for example, a carpet with interwoven luminescent fibres, which cannot be seen in daylight with the naked eye and only appear in the dark.

The photoluminescent masterbatches have already been common for several years, although they are gaining importance through their use in technical materials. Up to now, it has only been possible to equip standard products with a photoluminescent greenish yellow color. However, the innovative masterbatch from the Thuringia-based company now enables products to shine in a wide variety of colors.
