GRAFE received important US safety certification for "PP-Modalen"

Blankenhain/Thuringia, Feb 12, 2010 – The Grafe Group, headquartered at Blankenhain near Weimar, has received the UL certification for its product “PP- Modalen”. The master batch specialist is now confirmed to satisfy the high safety requirements of the UL standard. Not only does the certification underline the products excellent and lasting quality, it will also pave the way for sales and pro- ject activities in the US.

GRAFE has had its product “PP-Modalen” – master batch for injection molding applications certified since the beginning of 2010. „Apart from the production and service quality that has already been certified pursuant to ISO and TS16949, we are now focusing our efforts on the product safety, from which all our customers will benefit – even those who do not request the UL certification at the mo- ment,“ declared Matthias Grafe, the managing director.

The product has been subjected to the UL 94 HB and passed the tests successfully. This method is used to determine the HB flammability class, mainly for electrical appliances. The UL engineers have subjected the master batch to a UL-defined test, in order to establish its conformity with the require- ments. After this conformity has been ascertained the Thuringian company has been given the right to use the “UL” test mark for “PP-Modalen”. The product will be subjected to the UL certification over its entire production life, in order to ensure its permanent conformity with the original requirements.

The UL test is a verification procedure for various materials that is recognized all over the world, dur- ing which the properties of a product, a service or technique are determined on the basis of the speci- fications issued by Underwriters Laboratories, one of the most significant, largest and oldest US test agencies. The UL test criteria include the statutory safety standards of the USA, which are comparable to those of the German test agencies, such as TÜV or VDI. It is absolutely necessary for companies that wish to sell their products in the North American market to furnish proof of conformity with the US safety regulations. Certificates in this respect are issued by specifically qualified and recognized UL-test laboratories.
