Flow-Improver for medical technology
- Monday, 07.10.2013
Blankenhain, October 2013 – The field of medical technology in Germany is known as a particularly innovative high-growth market with a promising future. Important prerequisites, however, are high quality raw materials which must meet stringent requirements. A new addition to GRAFE’s product portfolio is the additive “Flow-Improver” which has been developed to meet the challenging demands of medical products.
According to statistics released by the Federal Health Ministry, there are more than 1.6 million different medical products. These include a wide variety of objects and processes to save lives, aid in recovery and improve the quality of life for those suffering from illness and impaired health. Every single one of these products must fulfill the highest requirements. Especially in the area of plastics, regulations stipulate that only one material must be used for the manufacture of a component, even when it is made up of different parts. This can often be problematic. Whenever molded, colored and hardened plastic components are overmolded at the same processing temperature, there is often streaking. With the Flow-Improver from GRAFE, the processing temperature of the overmolding plastic can be reduced by 40° C in order to eliminate streaking.
The lower processing temperatures also lead to cost and energy savings. By adding Flow-Improver to the color masterbatch, the GRAFE Group has developed a product combination that achieves optimal results in color and function. The additive masterbatch can be used in all common machines and is suitable for injection, extrusion and blow molding.
