BIOCOLEN® -Masterbatches
Whether based on renewable raw materials or biodegradable plastics, they open up new avenues in closed recycling loops. Environmentally friendly advantages result from the savings in crude oil and petrochemical processes, as well as the degradability and compostability of many bioplastic products. BIOCOLEN® masterbatches are available in many brilliant colours, such as ‘classic’ masterbatches.
With the colour specialists at the GRAFE DESIGN CENTRE and the development team in the MATERIAL SCIENCE division, you have experts at your side who can implement highly precise colour and material settings according to customer requirements and support you in obtaining the ‘OK compost INDUSTRIAL’ or ‘OK compost HOME’ labels.
BIOCOLEN® masterbatches are available in all batch sizes and in the granulate forms and sizes you require. On request, we can use the carrier material preferred by the customer. Please do not hesitate to contact us for further information. FAST, ACCURATE & RELIABLE!

Colour adjustment for bio-based plastics
Plastics made from renewable raw materials are becoming increasingly popular because they can significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the end product and offer equivalent technical properties to petrochemical comparators. If the manufacturer does not plan to obtain biodegradability certification for their product, our TEKOLEN® range of masterbatches is the perfect choice, regardless of whether you use our carrier materials or a customer-specific polymer, as there are no restrictions on colour formulation.
We would be happy to develop your desired colour – precisely, reliably and in the highest quality!
Substrate materials for possible colour adjustment (in stock):
- PLA
- PHBV
- Arboblend® Types (non-compostable)
- 5242 X
- 4940 D
- 3048 V
On request, we are happy to use customised carrier material at no extra charge!
Colour adjustment for biodegradable plasticse
If the biodegradability of your plastic product is important, e.g. according to standards such as those of TÜV Austria (‘OK compost HOME’, ‘OK compost INDUSTRIAL’ or ‘OK biodegradable’), then our BIOCOLEN® masterbatch series is the perfect choice. Depending on the standard and the seal to be achieved, limit values must either be complied with or entire groups of substances must be excluded!
This is exactly where our BIOCOLEN® masterbatch comes in, as the colour formulation is based on organic and differentiated inorganic pigments. We also avoid the use of heavy metals, so that the masterbatch is either completely free of heavy metals or remains below the communicated limit values. Finally, the finished BIOCOLEN® masterbatch is tested again in our analytical laboratory in the target dosage for the end product.
This ensures that our customers pass standard tests when using BIOCOLEN®!

Substrate materials for possible colour settings (in stock):
- PLA
- PHBV
- Arboblend® Types (compostable)
- V2
- 4083 V
- 3005
On request, we are happy to use customer-specific carrier materials and test compliance with the desired and predefined limit values in our extensive analytical laboratory for subsequent certification of the end product.

Additives for BIOCOLEN® products
In the field of additives, we use bio-based raw materials wherever possible for masterbatches in the BIOCOLEN® range, such as our dispersing aids or lubricants. For every enquiry, we check whether we can use alternatives to non-renewable standard additives for our formulation. In doing so, particular attention must be paid in advance to the certification to be achieved for the end product, as not every combination of additives is suitable for all certifications. Here you can rely on the support of our MATERIAL SCIENCE department, which checks every BIOCOLEN® formulation in advance for possible certification obstacles.
Optical effects with BIOCOLEN®
By adding certain substances, it is possible to give plastics a new optical quality. Combining plastic with flakes, cellulose fibres, particles and a suitable texture creates a visually interesting and high-quality surface. These effects also emphasise the ecological impact of the material, and the resulting products stand out clearly from standard plastics without any special effects.
