Floor path emergency markings

Blankenhain, October 2013 – Floor path marking systems in aircraft point the way to the nearest exit in emergency situations. These escape route floor markings are extremely important and it is essential that they function in every case. However, in normal operation these markings should blend into the interior design of the cabin as much as possible. Photoluminescent materials that absorb light energy from the environment are an excellent solution for this.
With the help of specially developed masterbatches from the GRAFE Group, the Lufthansa Technik AG has integrated optical color filters in a transparent polycarbonate to produce a new marking system “GuidU”, which is flatter, lighter and more flexible. With the flowing forms and designs of the new system, the aircraft cabins can be fitted with excellent and light-weight floor path markings. In addition, the markings are available in different colors to match the interior design of the cabins. Aircraft manufacturers and airline companies demand that the floor path markings should be integrated into the interior design of the cabin as unobtrusively as possible.
Transparent color batches are also of interest to extruders and injection molders who require transparent colors for lighting and LED technologies. Toy manufacturers, as well, often use this option for coloring. As LED light sources become more and more common, the demand for translucent colors will also grow. The GRAFE Group is well-positioned to fulfill the heightened demand.
