Weight reduction for mobility engineering

Mass mobility, on the streets and in the air, continues to grow steadily. With this in mind, new developments which offer alternatives to traditional materials are of particular importance. A significant factor is the development of increasingly lighter materials for the production of faster and more dynamic vehicles and aircraft.

 

The use of plastics in various design applications in mobility engineering has opened up a wide range of options for weight reduction. GRAFE Polymer Technik GmbH has developed a special composite with the potential to reduce weight by 30% in comparison to the use of traditional technical plastics. The modification does not basically alter the underlying performance of the selected technical plastic. It maintains good design flexibility, coloring options and meets the highest requirements for surface quality and process reliability. This is achieved through the combination of specific fillers and additives in the polymer matrix using a special processing technology at the GRAFE facility.

The first orders for seat paneling components have been delivered to a major German systems supplier and the results have been measurable, based on the excellent feedback of the partners involved: „Our development engineers, process engineers and chemists have worked hand in hand to achieve significant results and have pioneered new technologies to provide our partners with customized solutions.
